Starting Jiu-Jitsu Over 40
As a person in their mid-40s, one can start jiu jitsu over 40 and receive the same benefits as someone 20 years younger. One’s age tends to be no barrier to the beginning and continuing training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which has become popular worldwide and is considered one of the most effective martial arts for self-defense.
Jiu-Jitsu gives opportunities for everything from meeting a new love interest, finding solace in solitude, staying fit, and maintaining flexibility to building confidence.
However, as a person over 40, the options are even greater because you may have a different perspective of life and how to conduct yourself.
BJJ is a high-intensity activity that will help you stay top of your game. Avoiding injury is one of the goals of BJJ training and can be achieved by learning proper technique, flexibility, and coordination in all your workouts.
Below are some types of Jiu-Jitsu classes available at RADA:
Fundamentals Classes
The Beginners or Fundamentals class, also known as the fundamentals class, does not require any previous knowledge of jiu-jitsu to learn. All participants are given very detailed instruction in BJJ, regardless of experience. A highly challenging program for both men and women alike.
Intermediate Classes
In Intermediate classes, the practitioners start to see more advanced techniques, and the training counts with higher belts (blue belt and up) on the mats. The class dynamic is composed of the students practicing what they learn in “specific trainings.” Each BJJ class, even the beginner classes, provides an intense workout with highly technical instruction. However, all students receive special attention from their instructors and are taught how to progress at their own pace.
Advanced Classes
In the Advanced classes, the students learn advanced techniques and is able to practice in sparring rounds, which has a higher intensity of the training in the previous classes.
Techniques are taught at a very high level, sometimes harder than what students expect. An every-other-week schedule is employed so students can return to the level of intensity they want or need to progress.
Private Classes
Private classes are a great way to meet with your instructor to go over techniques you have learned in previous classes. Students can go over techniques that might have been skipped or forgotten. Private classes allow the instructor to tailor-fit each class for each student’s needs and help them progress faster than the other courses offered at Rada.
